Website: https://carvr.ai --- ## Getting Started URL: https://carvr.ai/docs/getting-started ### What is Carvr? Carvr turns full-length email design images into ready-to-send Klaviyo drag-and-drop templates. Instead of hand-coding HTML or rebuilding designs block by block in Klaviyo, you upload a single image and Carvr handles the rest — automatic slicing, AI-generated alt text, image compression, and one-click Klaviyo upload. It's built for email marketers, designers, and agencies who design emails in Figma, Photoshop, or any visual tool and need to get them into Klaviyo fast. ### How It Works 1. Upload your email design — Export your full-length email design as a JPEG or PNG (1200px wide recommended). Drop it into Carvr or use the Figma plugin to export directly. 2. Review the auto-sliced sections — Carvr's smart splice algorithm analyzes your design and automatically splits it into optimized horizontal sections. You can adjust the cut lines if needed. 3. Add links to each section — Assign a click-through URL to each section. Your brand's default website URL is pre-filled, and you can customize each section individually. 4. Push to Klaviyo — Click "Upload to Klaviyo" and Carvr creates a complete drag-and-drop template — with compressed images, AI alt text, and proper HTML — directly in your Klaviyo account. ### Setting Up Your Account 1. Create an account — Head to carvr.ai and sign up with your email address. 2. Start your free trial — Every new account gets a free trial. Explore all features before choosing a plan. 3. Connect your first Klaviyo brand — Add your Klaviyo Private API key to a Brand in Carvr. This connects your account so templates upload directly to Klaviyo. See the Connecting Klaviyo guide for step-by-step instructions. 4. Upload your first email design — Drop your full-length email design image into Carvr. The AI will auto-slice it into sections and push a ready-to-send template to your Klaviyo account. 5. Install the Figma plugin (optional) — If your team designs in Figma, install the Carvr Figma plugin to export designs directly to Klaviyo without leaving Figma. ### Getting Started FAQ Q: What design tools does Carvr support? A: You can upload email designs from any tool — Figma, Photoshop, Sketch, Canva, or any other design tool. Simply export your design as a JPEG or PNG and upload it. We also have a Figma plugin for direct exports. Q: Do I need to know HTML or code? A: Not at all. Carvr handles all the HTML generation, image slicing, and Klaviyo template creation automatically. You just upload your design and connect your Klaviyo account. Q: How does the AI slicing work? A: Our smart splice algorithm analyzes your email design and automatically finds the best places to split it into sections. It detects background color changes, content boundaries, and quiet zones to create clean, optimized email sections. Q: What Klaviyo plan do I need? A: Carvr works with any Klaviyo plan that supports custom templates and the Klaviyo API. You'll need a Private API key that starts with pk_ and has the following scopes: Accounts (Read), Images (Read/Write), and Templates (Read/Write). --- ## Connecting Klaviyo URL: https://carvr.ai/docs/connecting-klaviyo ### Step 1: Create a Klaviyo Private API Key 1. Open Klaviyo API Settings — Log into your Klaviyo account and go to Settings → API Keys (found under the Account section in the left sidebar). 2. Create a new Private API Key — Click "Create Private API Key". Give it a descriptive name like "Carvr" so you can identify it later. 3. Set the required permissions — Your API key needs the following scopes: - Accounts — Read (allows Carvr to verify the API key) - Images — Read/Write (allows Carvr to upload email section images) - Templates — Read/Write (allows Carvr to create and update email templates) You can leave all other scopes disabled. Carvr only needs these three permissions. 4. Copy the key — After creating the key, copy it immediately. Klaviyo only shows the full key once. The key starts with pk_. ### Step 2: Add the Key to a Brand 1. Go to Brands — In Carvr, navigate to Brands from the main menu. 2. Create or edit a Brand — Click "Add Brand" to create a new brand, or click an existing brand to edit it. 3. Paste your API key — Paste your Klaviyo Private API key into the "Klaviyo API Key" field. Also set your brand's default website URL — this is used as the fallback CTA link for email sections that don't have a specific link assigned. 4. Save — Click Save. Carvr will validate the API key and confirm the connection. You're ready to upload templates. ### Troubleshooting "API key validation failed" — Double-check that you copied the full key (it should start with pk_). Make sure there are no extra spaces before or after the key. If the key was recently created, wait a minute and try again. "Missing required permissions" — Your API key is missing a required scope. Go back to Klaviyo → Settings → API Keys, edit the key, and ensure Accounts (Read), Images (Read/Write), and Templates (Read/Write) are all enabled. Alternatively, create a new key with the correct permissions. Templates appearing in the wrong Klaviyo account — Each Brand connects to a specific Klaviyo account via its API key. Make sure you've selected the correct Brand before uploading. If you manage multiple Klaviyo accounts, each needs its own Brand in Carvr with the corresponding API key. ### Connecting Klaviyo FAQ Q: Where do I find my Klaviyo API key? A: In Klaviyo, go to Settings → API Keys (under Account). Create a new Private API key or use an existing one. The key starts with "pk_". Q: What permissions does the API key need? A: Your key needs three scopes: Accounts (Read), Images (Read/Write), and Templates (Read/Write). Without all three, uploads will fail with a permission error. Q: Can I use the same API key for multiple brands? A: Each brand in Carvr connects to one Klaviyo account via its own API key. If you manage multiple Klaviyo accounts (e.g., for different clients), each brand needs its own key from the corresponding Klaviyo account. Q: What is a Brand in Carvr? A: A Brand represents one Klaviyo account. It stores your API key, default website URL (used as the fallback CTA link), and brand colors. You can manage brands at carvr.ai/brands. Q: My API key stopped working. What happened? A: API keys can be revoked or expire in Klaviyo. Check your Klaviyo API Keys settings to verify the key is still active. If it was revoked, create a new one with the correct scopes and update your Brand settings. Q: What is the 100 image per day API limit? A: Klaviyo enforces a limit of 100 image uploads per day per account. Since each email template is sliced into multiple sections (typically 5–15 images), this means you can upload roughly 7–20 emails per day depending on how many sections each design produces. If you hit this limit, wait until the next day for it to reset. --- ## Recommended Setup URL: https://carvr.ai/docs/recommended-setup ### Create One Shared Team Account We recommend creating a single Carvr account for your team and sharing the login credentials. This keeps all your brands, templates, and upload history centralized under one account instead of scattered across individual accounts. ### Why a Shared Account Works Best - Centralized brands & API keys — All your Klaviyo connections live in one place. When someone new joins the team, they immediately have access to every brand. - Shared email history — Everyone can see previously uploaded templates, making it easy to reference or re-upload past designs. - One subscription — Instead of paying for individual plans, a single subscription covers the whole team. Choose a plan based on your total upload volume. - Consistent settings — Brand colors, default CTA links, and Klaviyo connections stay consistent across all team members. ### How to Set It Up 1. Create the account — Have one person sign up at carvr.ai using a shared team email (e.g., design@yourcompany.com) or a team member's email. 2. Set up brands — Add all your client brands with their Klaviyo API keys. See the Connecting Klaviyo guide for details. 3. Choose a plan — Pick the plan that matches your team's total brand count and monthly upload volume. 4. Share credentials securely — Add the login to a shared password manager (1Password, Bitwarden, LastPass) so team members can access it without credentials being sent in plaintext. ### Choosing the Right Plan Plans scale with your monthly email volume. See current plans and pricing at https://carvr.ai/#pricing. ### Security Tips - Use a password manager to share credentials — never send passwords over Slack, email, or text. - Designate one person as the account admin who manages the subscription, brands, and password resets. - When a team member leaves, update the password and the shared vault entry. - Use a strong, unique password that isn't reused from other services. ### Recommended Setup FAQ Q: Why use a shared team account instead of individual accounts? A: A shared account keeps all your brands, API keys, email templates, and upload history in one place. Everyone on the team sees the same templates and uses the same Klaviyo connections. It also means you only need one subscription plan. Q: Is it safe to share login credentials? A: For most teams, yes. Carvr doesn't store sensitive personal data — it connects to Klaviyo via API keys (which are already shared at the organization level). Use a password manager like 1Password or Bitwarden to share credentials securely rather than sending them over Slack or email. Q: What happens if someone changes the password? A: If someone resets the password, update it in your shared password manager so the rest of the team can still log in. Consider designating one person as the account admin who manages credentials. Q: Can multiple people be logged in at the same time? A: Yes. Multiple team members can be logged into the same account simultaneously and upload emails concurrently without conflicts. Q: How do I choose the right plan for my team? A: Plans scale with your monthly email upload volume. Estimate how many emails your team publishes per month and pick the matching tier — current plans and pricing are listed at https://carvr.ai/#pricing. --- ## Slicing Emails URL: https://carvr.ai/docs/slicing-emails ### Step 1: Upload Your Email Design Drag and drop your full-length email design image into Carvr, or click to browse your files. The image should be a single, full-length export of your entire email (JPEG or PNG, 1200px wide recommended). ### Step 2: AI Slice Click AI Slice to automatically detect the best cut points in your design. The algorithm analyzes background colors, content boundaries, and spacing to find clean break points between sections. After slicing, you can fine-tune the results: Adjusting Slice Lines: - Move a slice line — click and drag any slice line up or down to reposition it - Add a new slice line — click on the image where you want a new cut - Delete a slice line — double-click on the line to remove it ### Step 3: AI Alt Text Click AI Alt Text to generate descriptive alt text for each section. Alt text improves accessibility for screen readers and can help with email deliverability. You can edit the generated text for any section before uploading. ### Step 4: Add Links Link Addresses — Click on each sliced section to set its click-through URL. When a recipient clicks that section in the email, they will be taken to the URL you set. Your brand's default website URL is pre-filled, and you can customize each section individually. Note: Subject line and preview text are entered directly in Klaviyo at the campaign level — Carvr doesn't set them. Template Name — The template name defaults to your image file name. You can edit it before uploading — this will be the name of the template in your Klaviyo account, so use something descriptive like "Summer Sale - June 2025". ### Step 5: Upload to Klaviyo Click Upload Klaviyo Template to push the finished template to your Klaviyo account. Carvr compresses the images, packages the HTML, and creates a drag-and-drop template in Klaviyo that is ready to use in any campaign or flow. ### Working with Individual Sections With the Section Selection tool active, you can right-click on any sliced section to access additional options: - Upload to Klaviyo — upload that single section image to your Klaviyo account's media folder - Download to device — save the cropped section image to your computer This is especially useful when your designer updates a single section of the email after you have already uploaded the full template to Klaviyo. Instead of re-uploading the entire email, you can: 1. Upload the updated design image to Carvr (your previous slice lines, alt text, and link addresses are preserved automatically) 2. Right-click the section that changed and select "Upload to Klaviyo" to send just that image to your Klaviyo media folder 3. In Klaviyo, open your existing template and swap the old section image for the updated one ### Email History Every email you upload is saved to your Email History page, accessible from the main navigation. From here you can: - View all previously uploaded templates - See the date, template name, and section count for each upload - Re-open a past upload to reference your slice layout and settings ### Using in Klaviyo Once your template is uploaded, you will find it in your Klaviyo Templates folder. To edit it with the visual drag-and-drop builder, open the template from within a Campaign or a Flow. This gives you the full drag-and-drop editor where you can rearrange sections, add Universal Blocks, and make visual changes. Important: If you open the template directly from the Templates folder in Klaviyo, it will display as raw HTML code only. This is normal — Klaviyo's template folder view does not render the drag-and-drop editor. Always edit your Carvr templates from within a Campaign or Flow to get the visual editor. ### Slicing Emails FAQ Q: What image formats can I upload? A: JPEG and PNG files are supported. We recommend exporting your email design at 1200px wide for the best results. Q: How does AI Slice decide where to cut? A: The algorithm detects background color changes, content boundaries, and quiet zones in your design to find the cleanest possible cut points between sections. Q: Can I undo changes to slice lines? A: You can re-run AI Slice at any time to reset all slice lines back to the auto-detected positions. Q: What is AI Alt Text? A: AI Alt Text uses AI to generate descriptive alt text for each section of your email. This improves accessibility for screen readers and helps with email deliverability. Q: What happens if I upload a template with the same name? A: Carvr will update the existing template in Klaviyo with the new content. This makes it easy to iterate on designs without creating duplicate templates. Q: Where can I find my uploaded templates in Klaviyo? A: After uploading, your template appears in Klaviyo under Email Templates. You can use it in any campaign or flow. --- ## Figma Plugin Guide URL: https://carvr.ai/docs/figma-plugin ### Requirements You need an active Carvr subscription to use the Figma plugin. The plugin is included with all plans at no extra cost — no separate purchase required. ### Installation Search for "Carvr" in the Figma Community plugins, or run the plugin from your Figma file via Plugins → Carvr if it's already installed. ### Authentication The plugin uses your Carvr account credentials. When you first open the plugin, sign in with the same email and password you use at carvr.ai. Your session is stored locally in Figma so you won't need to log in every time. ### Basic Usage 1. Select a frame in Figma — Click on the frame containing your email design. The plugin will display the frame name and prepare it for export. Only top-level frames are supported — don't select individual layers or groups. 2. Choose your brand — Select the brand from the dropdown. This determines which Klaviyo account receives the template and pre-fills the default CTA link from your brand's website URL. 3. Click "Send to Klaviyo" — The plugin will: - Export your frame as a 1200px-wide JPEG - Analyze the design and find optimal slice points - Crop and compress each section - Generate AI alt text for each section - Create a complete Klaviyo drag-and-drop template ### Advanced Settings Click the gear icon in the plugin header to access the auto-detection toggles. (Note: subject line and preview text are entered directly in Klaviyo at the campaign level — the plugin doesn't handle them.) #### Auto-Detect Prototype Links This is the recommended way to add click-through URLs to your email sections. Instead of typing links manually in the plugin, you add them directly to your CTA buttons in Figma using the Prototype interaction feature. The plugin reads these links and automatically maps each one to the correct email section. How to Add Links in Figma: 1. Select your CTA button layer — In your email design frame, click on the button or element you want to be clickable in the final email. 2. Open the Prototype tab — In the right sidebar of Figma, click the Prototype tab (next to Design and Inspect). 3. Add an "On Click → Open Link" interaction — Click the + next to "Interactions" to add a new interaction. Set it to: Trigger: On Click, Action: Open Link, URL: paste your destination URL. 4. Repeat for each CTA button — Add a prototype link to every button in your email that should have a unique URL. The plugin maps each link to the email section that contains it based on its vertical position in the design. If all sections share the same link: You only need to add one prototype interaction — add it to the lowest CTA button in your design. Each link covers its own section and every section above it (up to the next link), so a single link at the bottom will apply to the entire email. How link mapping works: The plugin assigns links based on vertical position. Each link covers its section and all sections above it, up to the next link. Any sections without a link above them use the brand's default website URL set in your Brand settings. #### Auto-Detect Footer Why use this? Most emails have a footer section — unsubscribe links, social icons, legal text — that should stay together as one piece. Without footer detection, the slicing algorithm might cut through the middle of your footer, splitting it across two sections and breaking the layout. When this setting is enabled, the plugin identifies your footer and forces a clean slice at the top edge of it. This guarantees the footer is always exported as its own standalone section — which also makes it easy to swap out with a Klaviyo Universal Footer Block later. How to set up in Figma: Name the group or frame that contains your footer content "Footer" (case-insensitive — "footer", "FOOTER", etc. all work). Key details: - The footer group or frame must be inside your email design frame (not a sibling) - The name just needs to contain "footer" in any casing - The plugin forces a hard slice at the top edge of the footer, so everything below that line becomes one section ### Frame Requirements - Width: Any width — the plugin exports at 1200px wide (email standard) with correct aspect ratio - Max height: 15,000px at the exported 1200px width - Format: Exported as JPEG for email compatibility - Frame type: Must be a top-level frame (not a group, component instance, or individual layer) ### Troubleshooting Authentication errors — If you see "API key validation failed," your Klaviyo Private API key may be incorrect or expired. Go to your Klaviyo account → Settings → API Keys and verify the key. Make sure it starts with pk_. Update it in your Brand settings at Carvr Brands. Permission errors — Your Klaviyo API key needs both templates:write and images:write scopes. If you see a permissions error, create a new key in Klaviyo with the correct scopes and update your Brand settings. Rate limit errors — Each brand has a limit of 100 uploads per day. This is a Klaviyo API limitation that applies per Klaviyo account (brand), not per Carvr agency account — so other brands on your account are unaffected. If you hit this limit, wait until the next day or contact Klaviyo support if you need a higher limit. Frame too large — If your frame exceeds 15,000px tall at 1200px wide, reduce the frame height or split your email design into multiple frames. ### Figma Plugin FAQ Q: What size should my Figma frame be? A: We recommend designing at 600px wide, which is the standard email content width. The plugin exports at 1200px wide (2x for retina displays) and maintains the aspect ratio. Maximum height is 15,000px at the 1200px exported width. Q: Can I use prototype links instead of a single CTA? A: Yes! Enable "Auto-detect link addresses" in the plugin settings. Add On Click → Open Link prototype interactions to any layer in Figma, and the plugin will automatically map each link to the corresponding email section based on its Y position. Q: What happens with very tall email designs? A: The Figma plugin has a maximum height of 15,000px at the exported 1200px width. For very tall emails that exceed this limit, use the Carvr web app at carvr.ai instead — it supports larger images and gives you more control over slice points. Q: Does the plugin work with Figma's free plan? A: Yes, the Carvr Figma plugin works with all Figma plans, including the free tier. You just need a Carvr account to authenticate. Q: How do I update the plugin? A: Figma automatically updates plugins. You'll always have the latest version when you run the plugin. Q: Can I process multiple frames at once? A: Currently, the plugin processes one frame at a time. Select the frame you want to export, and the plugin will handle the slicing and upload for that frame. Q: Do I need a separate subscription for the Figma plugin? A: No. The Figma plugin is included with your Carvr subscription at no extra cost. Just log in with the same account you use at carvr.ai. --- ## Advanced Figma Settings URL: https://carvr.ai/docs/figma-advanced-settings Set up auto-detected prototype links and footer detection for one-click Figma to Klaviyo exports. When both are enabled, you select your frame and click "Send to Klaviyo" — link addresses and footer are pulled directly from your Figma file. No manual entry needed. Click the gear icon in the plugin header to access these settings. By default, they are turned off. (Subject line and preview text are entered directly in Klaviyo at the campaign level.) ### Auto-Detect Prototype Links This is the recommended way to add click-through URLs to email sections. Instead of typing links manually, you add them directly to CTA buttons in Figma using Prototype interactions. The plugin reads these links and maps each to the correct email section based on vertical position. How to add links in Figma: 1. Select your CTA button layer. 2. Open the Prototype tab in Figma's right sidebar. 3. Add an "On Click → Open Link" interaction with the destination URL. 4. Repeat for each CTA button that should have a unique URL. Important: The outermost collection of elements in your email design must be a frame, not a group. If it's a group, the "Add interaction" button won't appear in Figma's Prototype tab. If your entire email links to a single URL, only add one prototype interaction — to the lowest CTA button in your design. Each link covers its own section and every section above it (up to the next link), so a single link at the bottom will apply to the entire email. ### Auto-Detect Footer Most emails have a footer section (unsubscribe links, social icons, legal text) that should stay together as one piece. Without footer detection, the slicing algorithm might cut through the middle of your footer. When enabled, the plugin identifies your footer and forces a clean slice at the top edge of it — guaranteeing the footer is exported as its own standalone section. This makes it easy to swap with a Klaviyo Universal Footer Block later. How to set up in Figma: - Name the group or frame containing your footer "Footer" (case-insensitive) - The footer group must be inside your email design frame (not a sibling) - The plugin forces a hard slice at the top edge of the footer ### Advanced Figma Settings FAQ Q: Can I use prototype links instead of a single CTA? A: Yes. Enable "Auto-detect link addresses" in the plugin settings. Add On Click → Open Link prototype interactions to any layer in Figma, and the plugin will automatically map each link to the corresponding email section based on its Y position. Q: Why aren't my prototype interactions showing up? A: The outermost collection of elements in your email design must be a frame, not a group. If it's a group, the "Add interaction" button won't appear in Figma's Prototype tab. Convert the outer group to a frame and try again. Q: Does the footer group need to be a specific size? A: No. Just name the group or frame "Footer" (any casing) and the plugin will force a clean slice at the top edge of it. Everything below that line becomes one section you can swap out with your Universal Footer Block in Klaviyo. Q: Can I still override the auto-detected values? A: Yes. Auto-detected links and footer detection are starting points — you can adjust links or slice lines in the Carvr web editor after uploading. --- ## Using Templates in Klaviyo URL: https://carvr.ai/docs/using-templates-in-klaviyo Edit, customize, and send your Carvr templates in Klaviyo's drag-and-drop builder. ### Finding Your Template in Klaviyo After uploading from the Figma plugin or the Carvr web app, your template appears in Klaviyo under Email Templates. You can also click the "Use in Klaviyo" button in the Figma plugin to navigate directly to Klaviyo's campaign section. ### Editing in the Drag-and-Drop Builder To edit your template with the visual builder, always open it from within a Campaign or a Flow — not directly from the Templates folder. Important: The Templates folder in Klaviyo shows raw HTML code. This is normal. The drag-and-drop editor is only available when you open a template from a Campaign or Flow. Using in a campaign: 1. Create a new email campaign in Klaviyo. Choose your audience and enter a subject line. 2. On the template selection screen, find and select the Carvr template you uploaded. Click "Use template" to open it in the drag-and-drop builder. 3. Review your sections — your template will display exactly as it looked in Figma, with alt text and link addresses already set. ### Editing Slices in Carvr If the smart slice didn't get it perfect on the first try, you can edit directly in Carvr: 1. Click "Edit in Carvr" from the Figma plugin, or open from Email History. 2. With the horizontal line tool, click anywhere to add a new slice line, drag to reposition, or double-click to delete. Use the select tool to change link addresses. 3. Click "Update Klaviyo Template" to push the changes — replaces the existing template, no duplicates created. ### Swapping In a Live Footer Your uploaded template includes the footer as a single image section. If you prefer a fully functional footer with clickable links, social icons, and an unsubscribe link: 1. In the Klaviyo drag-and-drop builder, find the footer image section at the bottom of your template and delete it. 2. Drag in your own footer content — either a saved Klaviyo footer block or HTML generated with Carvr's Footer Builder tool (available in the app). ### Campaigns vs. Automated Flows Carvr templates work in both campaigns and automated flows. The drag-and-drop builder is the same in both. Since it's a native drag-and-drop template, you can add text blocks, Klaviyo variables (like a recipient's first name), product blocks, or any other Klaviyo content. ### Using Templates in Klaviyo FAQ Q: Why does my template show raw HTML in the Klaviyo Templates folder? A: This is normal. Klaviyo's Templates folder displays raw HTML code. To get the visual drag-and-drop editor, open your template from within a Campaign or Flow — not directly from the Templates list. Q: Can I edit the template after uploading? A: Yes. Open the template from a Campaign or Flow to use the drag-and-drop builder. You can rearrange sections, add text blocks, insert Universal Blocks, and make any visual changes you need. Q: What happens if I upload a template with the same name? A: Carvr updates the existing template in Klaviyo instead of creating a duplicate. This makes it easy to iterate on designs without cluttering your templates folder. Q: Can I add Klaviyo variables to the template? A: Yes. Once you open the template in the drag-and-drop builder, you can add text blocks with Klaviyo variables like first name, product recommendations, or any profile property — just like any other Klaviyo template. Q: Where do I find my uploaded template? A: Templates appear in your Klaviyo account under Email Templates. You can also use the "Use in Klaviyo" button in the Figma plugin to go directly to Klaviyo's campaign section. Q: Can I use the template in automated flows? A: Yes. Carvr templates work in both campaigns and automated flows. The drag-and-drop builder works the same way in both — you get the full visual editor with all your uploaded sections.
